Do people actually see apparitions of someone that isn’t actually there?

They show this in movies a lot. Someone will think they see their relative that died in the mirror, they quickly turn around and the person isn’t there. Does that actually happen to people? Has anyone experienced that? Where you think you vividly saw someone who is dead only for them to not be there when you turn around?
