This is not a judgement at all, just a genuine concern I’ve had for a while now. I’ve gone to the gym throughout this past year & have seen people who lift the heaviest of weights like they’re picking up a piece of paper —- both Men & Women. I would see regulars come in & out throughout the year & all they do is weightlifting, no cardio.
A lot of influencers often like to suggest weightlifting instead of cardio for those looking to shed some pounds “quicker” (in their own words , usually) .
Well, Im a 27F . I personally know a lot of people who have heart disease that run in their families & in 2021, I lost my best friend of same age to an out of the blue cardiac arrest.
I‘ve spoken to a couple of different cardiologist specialists throughout the last two years for health advice & when the topic of exercise has come up , each cardiologist has conveyed to me that they usually recommend cardio for people rather than weightlifting since weightlifting tends to put additional pressure & strain on the heart.
There have been tons of recent studies & reports of a lot of people that have been dying young these days from heart related issues, at higher rates.
So I always wondered if people take into consideration how much (or little) weightlifting may have an impact on their specific heart health? For everyone , it’s going to be different. But this is a question I’ve had for a while. Exercise is good , but I’m specifically referring to the act of constant heavy lifting & its effects on the heart
