JK Rowling's book says that torture spells can make people go crazy, but can torture actually make people go crazy?
Post Body

My understanding is that pain can break a person's heart or traumatize them, but it does not destroy their sanity and completely destroy their ability to think.

But if that is wrong, I find it interesting. Does anyone have any expertise in this area?

Edit: Hey! Does anyone know of any precedent or academic studies? This is an academic agenda, so it's no use for us laymen to just exchange our own opinions with each other. Sorry if I sound sarcastic! It's just because of my poor English.
