When somebody reports fraudulent activity on their bank account, what happens to the money that was spent?

For example, a while ago somebody charged Comcast $2400 from my checking account. I reported it to my bank and got the money credited. But what happens to the money that was fraudulently spent? Does Comcast keep it? Did the fraudster pay his Comcast bill for free?
