"New grass" vs "Old grass"?
Post Body

I have a skin allergy to certain types of grass.

When I was little, I couldn't go into the neighbor's yard barefoot because I would get rashes and welts. My dad talked to the neighbor about it because we're friendly and apparently years ago the neighbors had resown their yard with a different type of grass than all the other houses in the neighborhood were originally planted with.

When they explained it to little three-year-old me, they told me that the neighbor had "new grass" whereas we had "old grass." Our neighborhood was built about 60 years ago.

It's generally stayed true that of I was barefoot in the grass of an older area I wouldn't get welts and rashes, but if the place was newer, I would.

Was there some change in what type of grass was planted between 60 years ago and now? If so, what are the species?
