In the recent murder case of Carly Gregg. Why wasn't the surviving parent, her stepfather and an adult, charged with failing to properly secure the firearm that Gregg used to kill her mother with? She got the 357 Magnum revolver from under the mattress. I would hardly consider that a secured gun.

Here is the prosecutor laying out her opening argument: https://youtu.be/h7J6cPidqxs?si=46r03Z7GSM1eAmPo&t=225

The gun is under a mattress in a bedroom that's normally accessible to anyone in the house. That is not secure like a gun safe or lockbox with a mechanism that requires a key or combination lock.

So why wasn't the father charged for not securing the gun like school shooter parents have been charged in the cases such as Jennifer and James Crumbley and more recently Colin Gray?
