I’ve been staying over at my girlfriend’s place quite a bit recently, and while we have a great time watching movies, eating, and enjoying each other’s company, I really struggle when it comes to sleeping. I’m someone who needs cool temperatures or air conditioning to sleep comfortably, but at her place, it’s hot and humid, which drives me crazy. To make matters worse, we sleep holding each other, which makes the situation even hotter and more uncomfortable for me.
I’ve tried everything I can to make it better—sleeping naked, opening the windows, and turning the fan on full speed—but none of it works. On top of that, she’s the opposite of me; even when it’s warm, she still uses a blanket because she feels cold.
Last night, I finally told her that I couldn’t stay because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep. She insisted I stay, but I knew I’d feel miserable, so I explained multiple times, apologized, and eventually left, feeling semi-guilty. I love her and don’t want to hurt her feelings, but sacrificing my sleep and feeling uncomfortable every time I stay over isn’t something I can keep doing. We don’t have the option to buy an AC unit or use extra fans or cooling pads at her place.
How can I deal with this? I don’t want her to feel rejected, but I also don’t want to keep suffering through sleepless nights. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
TL;DR: I can’t sleep at my girlfriend’s place because it’s too hot and humid. I’ve tried everything, but it’s still uncomfortable, and we can’t afford extra cooling solutions. I finally told her I can’t stay overnight anymore, and now I feel guilty but also unheard. How can I make this situation better?
