Why are lots of airlines wanting small commercial planes to have long ranges?
Post Body

Here's my confusion: Qantas wants to replace its Boeing 737s with Airbus A320s, part of the reasoning being longer range and making routes such as Tokyo to Sydney within their reach. JetBlue also flies A321s between the USA and Europe. If airlines want longer range planes, why don't they purchase A350s, 777s, and 787s instead? These planes have already been proven to be long range, so why is there a need to make Boeing 737s and A321s have long ranges as well?
