Suppose I walk into the office of John Smith Esq. He is a well known criminal defence attorney. I have never met him, I do not have an appointment, I wasn't even waved in by the receptionist. I just enter the retail storefront, walk past reception, barge into his office while he's working on some prep, and shut the door behind me. This whole exchange is entirely unsolicited, and John had absolutely no idea that anyone was coming to see him today.
I say "Mr. Smith, I just shot my brother dead on the side of the road about 10 minutes ago. I planned it, I wanted to do it, and god damn it, I fucking enjoyed it. Now, I need your help."
Is Mr. Smith allowed to go to the police and immediately report me for murder? Or does this unsolicited conversation fall under attorney-client privilege?
