Why are a lot of rappers nowadays so terrible?

I feel like so many rappers nowadays are terrible and you can't even understand what they're saying; they just mumble. There's no emphasis on lyricism or talent. There are some notable exceptions like Kendrick Lamar or J Cole. But I feel like rappers from the past are generally better. What happened? Is it survivorship bias? (Do we only remember the good rappers?)
