Is it lawful for a person to be arrested simply for being accused of a crime based on hearsay?
Post Body

CONTEXT:

In a drama series being shown on local TV, there was a secondary character who was sent to jail by his own father (who's a police officer AND a major antagonist) because he had been accused of murdering his boxing gym coach. The accusers were all the other boxers in that gym (including the real culprit), and they all talked about the disagreement between the accused and the coach over money. The father, who takes huge pride in being a police officer, saw this as an insulting blow to his career and, in rage, he sought out and beat up his accused son before sending him to jail for his crime of murdering the coach.
