As someone who's born during the early 90's, my only knowledge of how the 80's was like was through stories told by my parents (mainly, that it was the time of Martial Law and heavy censorship in our country) the game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (which was set in a pastiche of 1980's Miami, Florida), and MTV videos on YouTube.
From what I could garner from them, I could imagine that the 80's was a time full of great music, bright neon lights (an aesthetic that's being captured by the vaporwave movement), and a generally awesome night life for most people.
