What does the size and population of a nation/people imply ?

Maybe we got some historians/anthroplogists here
Is a big nation with 70 million members superior to one with 6 million ? Meaning, is that evidence that there's a reason why the culture or ethnicity of the big nation spread so much and the one of the nation/ethnicity didn't ?
