How come the submarine at 20,000 leagues ended up destroyed by a Maelstrom?
Post Body

Edit: Sorry I meant the Nautilus within the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Yet characters on a lifeboat nearby escaped?

Also Aren’t submarines supposed to be submerged underwater in the first place and spent much its time below the water’s surface therefore shouldn’t be afraid of being sucked underwater. Or did it get ripped apart and ultimately destroyed after it slammed into the ocean floor by the whirlpool? As whirlpools only occur in shallow waters and the bottom may be hard sharp rocks?
