Why are artists asking for a share of AI companies revenue when they use other design concepts or sampling without paying royalties?
Post Body
Artists (drawers and music producers) take inspiration cues from many sources. They don't have to pay royalties in many cases.
In the music and visual design world, it is common to take visual and sound cues from everywhere. Samsung borrows apple's design and apple borrows their design from other places.
Singers sample beats and sounds from old music movements. Think the 90s and 80s music.
- An visual artist might take inspiration from say a 2010 video, which took inspiration from a 1980s video.
- Right now you have lots of music that sounds a bit like the old disco music, meaning they're sampling or "copying" some of the old music.
In many cases, why should artists have the right to ask AI companies for revenue when they're not giving other artists a cut of the revenue?
