What will happen if someone gets pulled into a whirlpool or Maelstrom?
Post Body

It appears these things only happens in relatively shallow waters Ie near shores of oceans. But I hear one might need to reach the bottom first before they can escape back up. Usually how far down for the average?

Can some one without scuba gear have a chance of surviving the ordeal, with water pressure difference even if they manage to hold their breath long enough ?

Btw Why would they fear for the submarine in 20,000 leagues since submarines are meant to be under water.
