How did we all figure out the weird and wonderful things our pets love?

I had a cat who loved mango. I can’t for the life of me remember how I figured that out.
I can remember how a friend figured out her dog liked to wear a cape. She was drying him off with a towel one day, and left it draped over him for a minute. Silly guy loved it. Trotted around wearing that wet towel so it flapped as he moved. One step followed another, and he had a Superman towel he wore clipped around his neck as a cape.
