I have a few friends who work in restaurants, stores, schools, etc. who tell me that they routinely have to throw out leftover food and/or ingredients. They also said they would get in trouble or that it's illegal to take it home or eat it.
What's the reasoning behind this? I assume that it may be some sort of health precaution, but once the food is in the hands of someone else isn't it their fault if something happens?
I don't think an employee who knows the food should have been thrown out taking home food and then getting sick is the same as a paying customer getting sick.
