Why does theatrical acting often work in movies, but grounded acting not work on stage?
Post Body

We all know the difference between theatrical acting (putting on all your tics and mannerisms for a character, performing to the back of the stage), and grounded and "naturalistic" acting.

My question is, why does theatrical acting often work in movies (Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine), but silent and subtle acting not work on the stage?
