Why are apes intelligent enough to learn basic math but can't be taught to speak a language?

Happy World Orangutan day, everyone!
If an ape can learn numbers and understand basic math problems, surely they should be able to be taught to speak a language on a rudimentary level? After all, a baby can learn to say mama and dada. So why can't they?
