I'm working on an enemy for a TTRPG game I plan on running, and I wanted to make a monster with a sonar theme. Now, I know that sonar has harmful effects on most living things, as well as that it is super loud. 235 dB if google is correct. However, all this data seems to be from the perspective of being in water. Underwater combat sucks, and if I can avoid having this thing lung-rupture my players w/o nerfing the sonar ability, that would be best. So, how loud would sonar be out of water, what would it sound like, and what would the effects be on the human body?
