Is it weird to message someone you haven’t spoken to in a very long time?

I was out with friends went someone mentioned whitewater rafting and I started thinking about the time I went when I was younger and I remembered my friend I was with. We haven’t spoken in like 15 years at least but we were very close before that. Would it be weird if I messaged them on Facebook and see how they’re doing?
