How do you put up boundaries between yourself and a significantly mentally disabled friend when you failed to do so initially?
Post Body

My mom has this one friend, and honestly from day 1 it's been a nightmare. I understand the lady can't help it, but that doesn't change the fact that it's been a disaster. Anyway, I overheard my mom talking about how this friend of hers is way more dependent on her than she realized, and when my dad suggested she put up boundaries, she said that she doesn't know how to, so I was hoping to give her some advice, but in all honesty I don't know what to tell her. I think my judgement is impaired due to my distaste for her friend (long story and I'm not here to talk about that), and I also don't think what I would do with my friends would work in this case, so I was hoping I could get some advice here.

Thank you for any advice you can give. Apologies if this kind of question isn't permitted. I checked the rules and it seemed like it would be allowed.
