To those that live in Florida, how big of a problem are alligators?

Post Body

I see tons of beautiful videos of people doing outdoor stuff like snorkeling, fishing and enjoying the beautiful scenery that makes up Florida, but I’m always terrified that a gator would be hidden in wait to attack me. I’m a semi experienced snorkeler but always in tropical locations where a shark would be the only apex predator and I’ve never seen one.

Do you have to be cautious of alligators on a daily basis? Are your kids allowed to play outside unattended? Or do they exist in your area but are only seen on super rare occasions? Do you have to keep a constant watch over your pets?
