Did widows used to wear blindfolds at their husbands’ funerals?
Post Body

I’m currently reading Hang the Moon by Jeannette Walls. It’s set in Appalachia just after the Great War, mid-Prohibition. Several men have died, but one’s wife is described as wearing a black silk blindfold at his funeral.

I know that mourning attire was strict back then and it went on for years, with the first year being exceptionally restrictive, but I’ve never done a deep dive into it and I’ve never heard of them being blindfolded in the things that I HAVE read. 🤔
