A couple I know is going through a divorce. I'm good friends with the dad. He had the kids one weekend I was over there and the 9 year old girl asked if she could tell me something and keep it a secret from her dad... I told her that I couldn't do that and that she should be able to tell her dad anything. She then asked me to not tell him that she had asked me that because he would be mad and I (while not promising not to tell him) decided to myself I wouldn't bring it up.
The dad is a great dad. Attentive to his kids, protective, fun, caring. The kids always seem comfortable and at ease when they're around him.
I don't know if the secret had something to do with him, with the mom, or with one of the kids. The other child is a 4 yr old boy. Was it right for me to say I couldn't promise to keep a secret from him?
