It doesn’t make sense to randomly send bland, uninteresting messages to random people on Reddit when they have no indication that they want to talk to you and they don’t even know you, or want a conversation. I have had a few people on here just assume I want to talk to them and wanting me to strike up a conversation with them when I don’t even know who they are. Is this just a Reddit thing? Or is it some kind of collectively understood thing that I’m too autistic to understand? When people message me with actual real things to say, like telling me information or going more in depth about something from a post or comment, that makes total sense. But I have never understood the people who send random messages like “hey” “hi” “what’s up” “how are you”. What is up with that? I know I can just choose to ignore but I want to know the reason WHY. It also seems like a lack of social skills on some peoples part here.. part of starting w conversation is actually checking in if the other person actually wants that as well. Like for example asking “hey would you like to talk/chat about xyz?” Not expecting a stranger to want to talk to you when they don’t even know you
Also some of these people who I ignored, have sent follow up texts up to weeks later saying things like “if you want to talk let me know.” Or “I guess you don’t want to talk then.” I’m clarifying once again that they are strangers who I never said a word to before. They often have almost completely empty profile, but not always. Are these people scammers or something? Does anyone else experience this and know what this is?
