Why do bearskin rugs etc. keep the animals' heads? Wouldn't people trip over them?

I get that taxidermy animal rugs are kind of a gross outdated 'we are the master race' / 'I shot and killed this myself' power symbol, and so the rug needs to resemble the original animal as much as possible to have that impact.
But seriously; what's the point of keeping a big lumpy obstacle in the middle of your floor? Aren't you just going to trip over it all the time?
