During the Cold War, Israel was a major western bloc ally, and helped greatly in reducing Eastern bloc influence in the Middle East.
Since the end of the Cold War, however, it seems as though anti-Israel sentiment has increasingly grown in the former Western bloc countries. There are exceptions, notably, the United States is still pretty pro-Israel, although American public and political sentiment has been clearly shifting in recent years. Other notable exceptions include, the Philippines. Some South American countries, and to a lesser extant, Spain and Italy. On the whole, however, anti-Israel sentiment is a lot more prevalent.
By contrast, pro-Israel sentiment has notably grown in former Western bloc countries, with the notable exceptions of China, Cuba, and some parts of Central and West Asia.
So why the change? Why is it that since the end of the Cold War, anti-Israel sentiment has very much grown in most former Western bloc countries - formerly strong Allie’s of Israel - and pro-Israel sentiment has very much grown in most former Eastern bloc countries - formerly strong rivals of Israel?
