With the growing popularity of ChatGPT and other similar tools, we have had some users using them to generate answers. These answers vary from mostly correct to laughably wrong.
The spirit of our rules has always been to encourage genuine discussion between users, which is why we've long banned telling users to "just google it" or link-only replies. This rule change isn't fundamentally changing anything, just making it clear and spelled out that posting AI generated replies is not engaging in genuine discussion with the asker.
Some of you may also have noticed that we have been hit with spammy replies apparently from GPT3, from an actor using hundreds and hundreds of accounts in a fully automated fashion. We know about this and have been working to stop them for a while now, as have the other affected subs. Report them when you see them.
This rule change is more for the humans who decide to play with ChatGPT. Some users in this group who have been banned expressed that it wasn't technically against the rules. So we are making it clear. This is a place for genuine discussions from human to human. If people wanted to ask ChatGPT, they can go do that themselves.
