I tried to post this on r/Canada, but surprise, sur-fucking-prise, they took it down. Is there a national equivalent to r/NoRulesCalgary? Anyways - on with my post.
I thought that government programs were supposed to benefit all Canadians.
The proposed Canada Dental Care Plan is only available to Canadians with a net adjusted household income of $90,000 or less. Below $90K / year, the services will have co-pay amounts that decrease as net adjusted household income approaches $70K / year. Anyone in a household with net adjusted income below $70K/year will not have to pay co-pay charges.
I have no issue with a social safety net and I have no issue with assisting lower income households, but this is a government program for Canadians funded by all Canadians' tax contributions.
My wife and I are fortunate to have an adjusted net income that exceeds $90K/year, but with three kids, we aren't living like the Rockefellers. Nearly every government program that has a financial threshold excludes us on the benefit side, but we still feel the impact as the tax burden/federal debt is ever increasing.
Government is supposed to serve all Canadians, but this middle-class Canadian is feeling entirely excluded.
What are your thoughts on tying government funded programs to household income levels?
