Posting in r/NoRulesCalgary because this is a local, home-grown story with much broader implications.

There are a few interesting elements to this story.

1. It seems like nobody is noticing that it took a private lawsuit to identify that taxpayers have been defrauded of at least $16 million dollars by the owners of the Westin Calgary Airport hotel.
2. The only reason this story has come to light is because two of the three partners didn't get their fair share of the grift, so they are suing the third partner.
3. Nobody seems to be acknowledging that the plaintiff ought to be the Government of Canada, and not the Siksika Calgary Airport Limited Partnership (SCALP) and the third unnamed partner.
4. Yes, you read that right, the SCALP, a First Nations business, is the name of one of the partner-owners of the Westin Calgary Airport hotel. You can't make this shit up.
5. This is just one hotel that was a "partner" of the government of Canada that provided accommodation for COVID isolation. I can only imagine the scope and scale of the fraud that occurred under the auspices of this program.
6. The RCMP and Calgary Police would neither confirm nor deny that a criminal investigation is under way. Well, there better be one, and it better not stop with this hotel.

Shameful business by the Westin Calgary Airport hotel, the Government of Canada, and anyone else involved in this fraudulent scheme.
