Is it possible to build past the outer 'cloud' layer of a planet or moon on consoles?

I'm on PS4 and I'm trying to build a space base above a moon, but it seems that whenever I reach a certain height the game 'kills' me (I'm doing it in creative at the moment) and puts me back to where I last exited my ship.
I haven't been able to get past the outer 'cloud' layer of the moon because of this, and I want to know anyone has managed to do this, and if so then how?
