How do you deal with blue balls?

(M32) I start to get blue balls after 2-3 days of not jerking off. I get blue balls out of nowhere -- I'm not touching myself, looking at porn, thinking about anything sexual. Just once it's been a few days without a release, I get blue balls pretty bad and it's uncomfortable and distracting. It's just a dull ache down there that makes me feel like my balls are full. I know it's just blue balls because if I were to jerk off, then it goes away.

How long does it take you to start getting blue balls? Is this common? I noticed that sometimes I get relief if I squeeze my balls, but not sure why.
