The previous owners of our home seem to have taken receipt of a dump truck load (or more) of chunks of old asphalt, along with a generous amount of fill dirt. They then let that sit until Himalayan Blackberries moved in. My big project for the year is to turn this heap of rubble and thorns into a new set of No Dig beds. I've cut back all of the blackberries, and am now in the process of moving the hill of asphalt pieces. I'm disrupting the soil quite a bit in digging the chunks of asphalt out, but I don't see any way around that. Once I've moved the asphalt out (and dug any remaining blackberry roots) I'm planning on leveling the remaining mound of fill dirt, and then building Charles Dowding style cardboard and compost beds on top of that, with cardboard and woodchip paths. I've never done a garden bed with this level of soil disruption beneath it, and would love to hear if I should expect anything outside of the ordinary, or if I should change anything about my strategy. Thanks for reading!
