Are there any downsides to using eSim permanently in the US?

I have always had a SIM card in my phone, but wondering if I should just use eSim from now on to make it easier to change carriers if I choose to? Any negatives to doing that? Sorry for my ignorance, I don’t know a lot about the differences between the two.
