With The Outer Worlds coming to the Switch, what does this mean for the switch Library moving forwards?
Post Body

Sorry if this has been asked already. But I’ve been thinking about the implications of games like The Outer Worlds and The Witcher coming to Switch and wondering what impact, if any, this will have on the wider switch library in terms of future games.

Typically, devs don’t focus on the switch as an intended market for AAA games. However, Obsidian kind of blew that away when it announced its planning on bringing TOW to the switch. Yes I get that it’s not going to be released with the other console editions, but the announcement has been still been made prior to release.

Usually we see this kind of announcement following the release of the game, much like we have seen with The Witcher.

These games are likely to be quite system intensive, albeit in a scaled down way which could compromise the experience. We’ll have to see how that pans out on release.

But, do you think this will help momentum build towards more AAA developers considering the switch during the development cycle? What do you see next being announced for the switch?

My gut tells me that we’ll see another Bethesda game come over to the switch. Most likely one of the Fallout games, and I don’t think it’s too far fetched.

TOW is made by the same developers who brought Fallout: New Vegas (probably the best game in the franchise) so surely Bethesda would want to jump on the train here given their own Fallout games would be considered direct competitors for TOW, even if this were to be a port.

Another possibility would be GTA V. This one is less likely given the size of the game and patches, but in terms of system capabilities, it was still able to run on the previous gen consoles.

TLDR: Do games like The Outer Worlds and The Witcher set the expectation that the switch is a worthy consideration for third party AAA titles?
