I don’t know how well known this is, but for the last Skylanders game, Skylanders Imaginators, the option existed to download a character creator app, copy over your Imaginator from the game, and then order your actual in game Imaginator as a Skylander figure. It was 3D printed, full color, and it was $80, with 4-6 week delivery.
If Nintendo did the same thing, using the three existing Mii amiibo molds, and I guess optionally allowing you to have it loaded out with the armor sets from Smash, would you buy one? Would you buy three? Would you pay $80? More? It was an incredibly cool thing for Imaginators, as the entire premise of the game was that you had to create a character to use, and that was your Skylander. amiibo aren’t quite the same, idea wise, but I think people would be way more into it. Imaginators was the tail end of Skylanders’ popularity.
