I will elaborate, but here are the links for the USB hub and USB C cables I bought.
Braided 90 degree USB C cables
So, I posted here last week asking if anyone knew a way to charge the Switch Pro controllers with a USB hub, and didn’t get much help. This is something that was important to me, as I keep all of my controllers in drawers, and like to keep them charged. With the Switch Pro controllers, they would only charge if they were plugged into the Switch itself (and would stop charging when the Switch went into sleep mode), a USB hub plugged directly into the Switch (and would stop charging when the Switch went into sleep mode), or plugged into my phone charging cable, which is plugged into the wall. Someone in that post told me all I needed to do was plug a USB C cable into a Pro controller and press the sync button, and it would go into charging mode, but that didn’t work. So, I set out to figure out what the damn issue was.
I own a 25 port powered USB hub, it does not charge Switch Pro controllers. I own a 13 port powered USB hub, which I have all of my DSes plugged into, it does not charge Switch Pro controllers. I have a 3,000mAh power bank, which will charge one, but not 4 using a hub. Also, a power bank would not be ideal. So, why would the Switch work, the Switch with a USB hub work, and my phone charger work, but literally nothing else?
I checked my phone charger to find out what the power output is. Then, I googled to find out what the Switch puts out to the USB ports. What I came up with, is that a Switch Pro controller requires a USB output of 5V, 1.8A. So, then I used that as a search query on Amazon, and found the USB hub listed above. It came in today, I tried it, and it works, it will simultaneously charge 4 Switch Pro controllers!
I know this is only going to matter to some people, but I have groups of people over frequently for Mario Kart, and I much rather just keep my controllers on chargers, than go to use them and end up screwed. I am very happy I finally found the solution, and I hope this post will help some others that might be looking for the same thing.
