Personally, I imagine that the way it will work is going to be one of 2 things. (Originally I was going to say 3 but forgot what the 3rd would be)
Similar to the Switch but more powerful, and doing for cartridges what they did with 3DS cartridges (allow them to potentially be backwards compatible but not allowing new games to play in the old system).
Something different entirely from any console they’ve released in a long time, potentially closer to what PlayStation and Microsoft are putting out in a lot of regards. No gimmicks, just hardware and a controller.
Frankly, I’d like either of these. The issue I’d have with 2 is that if they don’t do joycons or something that has the same functionality, it’d be less likely we’d be able to play a lot of games the same, but I don’t think it’s a huge issue for most things, since we can already use the pro controller in a vast majority of games, and there’s more opportunity for a powerful console. I’m curious what you THINK is going to happen, and what you’d WANT the next console to be like.
I can say this… I don’t want it to be super gimmicky. I can’t imagine playing call of duty on a Wii again, for example. The Switch works in the way that if you want to play it like another console you can have it docked with a pro controller and you’re set, and if you want the features that make it different, you can just undock it. I don’t want a console that can’t play like a regular console.
