Did my first lane split the other day and... holy shit that was scary and yet the adrenalin rushed through my vain my god! I was going down a 2 lane highway and the truck infront of me to the left got in the right lane and signaled me to take his spot. I began speeding up to get to the spot and he gave me a hand gesture that he is also a biker and i gave him one back thanking him for the spot and him moving over. I looked at him as i was moving and wasnt paying attention to what was in front of me. Even though i only looked away to the truck for all of 2 seconds max, when i finally did look back in front of me, there was a slow moving car in the left lane and another slow moving van directly next to it in the right lane. With seconds to think make a decision and me going way too fast for what was infront of me as i was trying to get into the spot given to me by the truck, it seemed like time was moving in slow motion which allowed me to actually think and make a decision about where i was going to go so that i didnt crash and stay alive. The car in front of me moved up just enough passed the van on the right that i was able to decide to split between them into the right lane As safe as possible. I chose to do that with the speed i had, I gunned hit and split between them at an angle coming way too close to the front of the van which scared tf outta me. With no one in either left or right lanes ahead of me, I was able to take off away from everyone safely. The adrenalin was PUMPING through me and it was a terrifying experience for my first time lane splitting. Lessons were learned and ill certainly remember that if i ever find myself in a similar situation. Im still a pretty new rider, i started riding after taking the course to get my license last october and have been riding damn near every day before it gets way too cold to ride here in maryland to get as much experience as possible riding before next bike season.
