Question about Nikons AF-area modes

Post Body

After being on holidays recently and kind of getting annoyed by my focus not being on point all the time, i started looking into nikon's focusing modes.

I see that by changing into a mode where you can select your focus points manually, you can get control over your cameras focus. However, i do not like the fact that i have to change the focus point for EVERY SINGLE PICTURE.

I also realised, that you cannot manually override the automatically selected focus points in automatic mode. Why? Thats so dumb. Just work automatically, and in case i don't like it let me adjust it. Why do i have to go full Manual or Full auto?

Why can't i have a mode which is auto, but allows a manual override? Or is there a mode like that and i am just missing something.

I hope you guys can help me!

I have a Nikon D5500 BTW.
