Tamron 70-200 with 1.4 teleconverter for football?

Post Body

Last fall I started taking pictures of my Grandson's and others playing HS football. I used my Nikon D5100 (DX sensor) and Tamron 70-200 FX lens. As the season went on, I was getting some pretty good keepers to share with the team.

This year I'll have my new Nikon D850 and the same Tamron 70-200.

After some testing, I think I'm going to miss the extra reach that I had using the FX lens with the DX sensor. Yes, I know I can set the D850 to DX mode, but I prefer not to.

Even though I'd loose 1 stop of light, I'm considering a 1.4 teleconverter.

Any thought on using the teleconverter?

Thanks!
