Any night shifters here work inpatient psych or residential??
Post Body

I have a question about interactions with residents, if so! Essentially itā€™s just... how do you handle your ā€œproblem childrenā€, so to speak? I know that during the day Iā€™m a pretty amicable person and I get along with all of our residents swimmingly. But at night, I just get irritated. A couple of them tend to stay up all night (which theyā€™re absolutely not supposed to do, but you canā€™t really force an adult to sleep, you know?) and one in particular will come down around 4 am or earlier asking for food and messing around and just generally getting underfoot while Iā€™m trying to set up the dining room for the next day and do all my tasks. Sheā€™s just aggravating at times and I feel bad because usually I donā€™t have a problem telling her exactly what I think and we get along okay. I just have little to no patience in the dead of night. This seems like a super niche problem that might honestly just be answered by learning to be really patient and firm but I figured Iā€™d ask.

Edit: Thank you to all the people who left comments I actually did try a few of the suggestions and boy oh boy, it worked haha now itā€™s just building on that foundation. I really appreciate all the input!!
