Post Body

I've been a fan of the band for about 15 years now but never had the opportunity to see them live until now. I am happy I did though I have mixed feelings about the show itself and would like to share them with you. Maybe someone who has been to several of their shows live can give me a different perspective or clarify a few things for me.

  1. First of all, the arena where they performed wasn't full, in fact it was quite empty, at least 1,000-2,000 seats were vacant. Maybe the show taking place on a Tuesday night had something to do with it, I don't know.
  2. Choosing Frankfurt as a city is a weird choice to say the least especially when they won't be coming to Berlin for instance which is Germany's capital and a much bigger city where you probably wouldn't have so many vacant seats. Overall the cities they picked for their European "tour" (less than 10 cities in total, that's why I call it a "tour") are a bit strange. For example, they are going to Casalecchio di Reno (I had to Google where that is in Italy) but not to Turin, Rome or Milan. They are going to Prague but not to Berlin or Warsaw or Copenhagen. No Paris or Madrid either, not a single city in Scandinavia. Their whole European tour will only be about 3 weeks long in total.
  3. They spent a lot of time speaking to the crowd after nearly every song which I guess is fine sometimes but looking back at it now, they didn't say much that was relevant or even funny and all the time spent talking could have been spent singing 4-5 more songs.
  4. They had a British indie pop band (Lottery Winners) open for them which is fine but then they brought them on stage in the middle of the show to sing an Oasis song. Why? This is again easily 10-15 minutes "wasted" that could have been spent performing more songs.
  5. It's supposedly their Get Rollin' tour but they only sang 2 songs from that album: San Quentin and Those Days yet they had a whole slideshow of anime effects about that album with a yellow van driving and crashing throughout the show. Poor marketing.
  6. This is more of a personal take and I understand that the guys didn't plan the set list according to my wishes but there was a lot of songs that I was hoping would be performed yet they weren't. The biggest absentees for me were probably Too Bad, Follow You Home, If Everyone Cared, I'd Come For You, Never Gonna Be Alone, If Today Was Your Last Day, Lullaby, Trying Not To Love You. There was not a single song from their No Fixed Address and Feed the Machine albums. Overall a lot of songs that I felt would be good to perform live weren't included.
  7. The show was maybe a bit short, it was supposed to start around 8:15 pm and end at 10:30 pm, instead they began at 8:50 pm and ended at 10:30 pm. They sang about 20 songs in total.

I still had a great time regardless and would go watch them live again if they come back to Europe and perform near where I live.
