Spells vs Skills...how do I tell the difference?

Are all skills dependent upon the offensive magic stat, since all skills use MP? Or are certain skills reliant on the offensive melee stat since they clearly use weapons/make physical contact with the enemy? Like Evan’s spin attack - physical or magical? And what about when it gains fire element from Zing? I’m just not clear on what constitutes a physical attack or a spell attack.
