Nexus 7 not visible on Macbook Pro?

So I bought a Nexus 7, and my only home computer is a Macbook Pro - mid 2010. I am still running Snow Leopard, but plan on upgrading to Mountain Lion soon. Anyway, when I plug my N7 into my Macbook Pro, it doesn't show up. So I have had to borrow friends/family's Windows machines to put data on my N7. Anyone know a fix for this? Also, my device has been rooted.
