Should I update? Opinions please!

So I received the update this morning, downloaded and left for work only to find my Nexus 7 2013 Wifi to still be running kitkat when I got home, this seems to be a common occurrence at the moment though.
My mother who has a Nexus 7 2012 Wifi though has the update installed and so far I don't like it, the top slide down menus is now a menu and small and honesty shitola. Are there any improvements worth leaving the well designed slide down menu for an cramped letterbox menu for?
