Where to buy in SE Asia? Is the Nexus travel hardy?

I got blackout drunk a couple nights ago in The Philippines and lost my iPod Touch. I sat on my Kindle in Sumatra. Whoops. I am now looking to upgrade so I can once again have entertainment. I am backpacking for the next 9 months in Southeast Asia so any hotspots along the way would be good. I was thinking Low Yat in KL but suggestions are good.
Also, is the Nexus rugged at all? It is already proven I am an idiot with electronics. Thanks for the help.
