I was noticing that somewhat recently my phone's battery life literally plummeted. It was at a point where even if I didn't touch the phone it would be dead in 8 hours (from 100%). I decided to play around with the phone a little bit and not really use it much for an entire day except for changing different settings.
This probably varies a lot from person to person, but I figured i'd post it in case anyone found it interesting or had anything to add.
Heres the labeled photo saying what I changed:

I was wondering why it always said wifi was on even when I turned it to off, and I ended up finding the answer in a different thread (thanks /u/MateasJohnIrving )
there is an option somewhere (perhaps in location settings or advanced wifi settings) called 'Scanning Always Available' that needs to be toggled to 'off' for the wifi module to be completely powered down.
So it definately seems that the scanning isn't the battery killer. Either something is trying to sync massive amounts of info when i'm connected to wifi, or my signal is so weak that the phone is jumping through hoops (and using a ton of battery) to keep the signal up (very possible, I get bad wifi reception in my room)
and as a bonus photo. Heres what my phone life looked like before I started experimenting (bluetooth off, wif on, lte on, some app kept it awake apparently etc) It also shows the difference between USB charging and using the wall charger:
Anyway, if anyone has some advice besides not turing on wifi when I don't need it, I'd love to hear it. Past that i hope you found my little experiment interesting.
